Design for manufacturing is a review of the relationship between geometry and the intended production process. A feature that works in a printed prototype may need to change for machining, extrusion, cutting, or an assembled production part. A useful DFM review starts with the proposed material, process, expected quantity, functional interfaces, and any supplier feedback already available. The review can cover feature access, avoidable complexity, dimensional requirements, and assembly considerations. Supplier-specific capabilities still need confirmation with the fabricator; a CAD review alone cannot establish a production quote or guarantee a manufacturing outcome.
